steaming streetCommon AC Repairs Needed:

AC Compressor Failure: A failing compressor is not too hard to spot. If the compressor is going bad, you'll probably hear strange noises when trying to turn the AC on (I.e. ticking, knocks, screeching or squealing sounds). As often with cars, if you can hear it making unusual noises - you'll probably be needing repair. When an air compressor goes bad it can cause a variety of problems:

  • Shrapnel: pieces of the compressor can break off and end up running through your car's AC hoses, condenser, accumulator and/or evaporator.
  • Buildup: a nasty buildup of refrigerant residue and the aforementioned shrapnel can accumulate throughout the air conditioner system.

AC System Flush: After a diagnosis confirms that the compressor is bad, the AC system must be flushed out to prevent the buildup caused by the bad compressor. This system flush is very important because the accumulated buildup will quickly ruin any new compressor.

Low Refrigerant Pressure/Freon Refills: Oftentimes your car AC isn’t blowing out cold air as good as it used to, which may mean you have low refrigerant pressure or you need a Freon refill (I.e. R12 or R134A). If so, visit our AC service/recharge page here.

"Fantastic Group!"

I took my car to them for some repair work. They called around with the VIN number and found out it was still under warranty. Not only that, but they took it to the dealership, managed the entire process, got my car back in record time....AND DIDN'T CHARGE ME A PENNY! That's what a professional company does when it puts it's customers first. Thanks guys!"

"Highly Recommend"

"The owner and staff here are honest, friendly and very knowledgable! The owner, being a master mechanic himself, is always on site and there to assist the other mechanics or the front desk at any given time to make sure the customers are happy and their vehicles are well taken care of. They aren't pushy and don't try to sell you extra things you don't need, but they will advise you if they are sincerely concerned about something. . . I never have to worry about the quality of work performed. I highly recommend this place."

"Impressed with the Service and the Repairs"

"I've been looking for a local repair shop with reasonable rates and more importantly, one which I feel I can trust and respect their advice. I think I've found it, after many "hit and miss" attempts elsewhere. My Mercedes is well past the warranty period and my husband I keep weighing the advantages and disadvantages of selling it...we just may keep it a while longer now that we have located a local shop we feel will provide excellent service. We found it by chance, so I'm glad to recommend it in the hope their positive recommendations keep them busy! A selfish motive, yes, but I wouldn't bother with a recommendation if I didn't honestly think they were a good place to repair my car."

"Quick and Reasonable"

"I'm not from this area and choosing an auto repair shop without word of mouth recommendation is challenging. I based my decision to go to Smith specialty on reviews and a desire to find a family owned location. I was not disappointed. I brought my car in at 7:30 am and was ready to go by 11. They did a great job of keeping me informed of what was going on and was treated with respect. I will definitely be back!"
