Jaguar is a British luxury car manufacturer without peer (and recently named ‘Number 1 Car Manufacturer’ in the What Car? J.D. Power Survey 2012.), with headquarters in Whitley, Coventry, England; is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Motors Ltd. company (India) and operations are performed as part of the Jaguar Land Rover business. In 1968, Jaguar merged with British Motor Corporation, which was later nationalized as British Leyland.

In 1984, Jaguar became listed on London's Stock Exchange and FTSE 100 Index until 1989 when acquired by the Ford Motor Company. Jaguar and Land Rover have two engineering design centers: The Whitley Plant in Coventry, and The Gaydon Plant in Warwickshire; and two manufacturing centers (The Castle Bromwich Assembly Plant in Birmingham, and The Halewood Body and Assembly Plant outside of Liverpool.

Fun Facts: Sir William Lyons founded Jaguar in 1922 as the Swallow Sidecar Company or 'SS' Company - and started by making motorcycle sidecars before manufacturing passenger cars. A name change to Jaguar was made shortly after World War II to ensure that there was no confusion about the company's 'SS' initials (it was a 'no-brainer' to steer the company to the new name and avoid any possible negative connotation or mistaken Teutonic connection to the now-infamous 'SS' initials).
